Techs and drugs and ‘rock and roll’?

Jackie Maguire, Chief Executive, Meath County Council 3rd May 2017

Come around to our place

It’s not all about techs you know. Nor is it about the drugs, or more accurately, the drugs companies. Yes, tech and pharma companies are very, very welcome to Meath but so are the entertainers – hotels, restaurants, pubs and nightclubs. What brought this to mind is several stories in the media regarding the imminent sale of the likes of hotels in Meath.

Foodie Destination Winner

We would really love to see more development of the hospitality industry in the county – something that offers a potentially great business opportunity for those with hospitality experience. As Meath grows in popularity as a tourism destination we will need more services and accommodation to look after these visitors. Along with our world-famous heritage site in the Boyne Valley, foodies will visit us for our growing Boyne Valley Food series, Ireland’s Foodie Destination 2016 winner

Purple Haze

And if they’re not all tuckered out by food and culture then they can head to Navan town, holder of a Purple Flag Award for its evening and night-time economy. If you’re not familiar with the Purple Flag status, it’s is a town and city centre award – similar to the Blue Flag for beaches – which aims to raise the standard and broaden the appeal of town and city centres between the hours of 18:00 and 05:00. Towns awarded the Purple Flag are recognised for providing a vibrant mix of entertainment while promoting the safety and wellbeing of visitors and local residents.

Anyone for a cuppa?

We’re also here to encourage and support smaller projects. Every person who visits Meath is likely, at the very least, to want a cup of coffee or a bowl of soup. Every person working in a small coffee shop or restaurant means we’re better meeting the aims of the Meath County Council @MeathCoCo #MakeItMeath initiative, to keep Meath residents working in their native county and encouraging others to move here.
